Tashkent is the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan, a city under republican subordination. It is the most populous city in Central Asia, the center of the Tashkent metropolitan area, and an important political, economic, cultural, and scientific center of the country, as well as an aviation, rail, and road hub.

It is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia; in 2009, the city’s 2,200th anniversary was officially celebrated.

Tashkent is home to government agencies, foreign embassies, and the headquarters of most of Uzbekistan’s largest commercial organizations and public associations.
